Gel-Coat is the hard shiny colored surface of your boat that provides beauty
and protection for the fiberglass. It is usually .020-.050 in thickness. In the
manufacturing process, the gel-coat is the first thing applied to the bright,
shiny, and waxed mold. The fiberglass is then layered into the mold, forming
the hull. Wood re-enforcements are added for stiffness. After curing, the boat
is pulled from the mold, and the color and finish are already applied, making
the finished hull or deck ready for assembly.

Gel-coat damage comes in many forms. It can be worn through, exposing the
fiberglass, or, because it's much harder than fiberglass resins, it can be
chipped or fractured.

At Bragg's Marine we use only gel-coat in the repair of your boats finish, not
an after-market automotive paint. All color matching is done on site, and we
use only the finest gel-coats available, proven with over thirty years of
experience. This slow process assures that your repair will look flawless
when completed and also for years to come.
